Michael Campbell may be just a youth, but he’s old enough to know better.
He’s irresponsible, a coward, and a race mixing oil driller.
It’s disturbing to see a white youth end up like this at such a young age.
A Minnesota man accused of being “super drunk” when he caused a car crash that killed his 20-year-old girlfriend was also charged with running away from the scene of the fatal wreck, authorities said.
Michael Laurence Campbell, 21, of Minneapolis, was charged Wednesday with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in the death of 20-year-old Ria Patel, who was killed early Sunday after Campbell’s Ford Focus slammed into a traffic light in Minneapolis.
“[A witness] then watched Campbell get out of the car and run to a nearby McDonald’s,” Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced in a news release. “She called 911 and then saw Campbell return to the car and dig around for something in the driver’s side of the vehicle. The witness walked toward him and Campbell told her to call 911.”
The woman then told Campbell that she had and police were on the way, prompting him to run toward a parking lot, according to the criminal complaint.
Another witness at the scene spotted Campbell running through the parking lot before he jumped a fence along a highway exit ramp. Emergency workers soon arrived and tried unsuccessfully to save Patel after finding her in the crumpled car. No visible skid marks were found at the scene.
Campbell, who was on probation for a misdemeanor hit-and-run conviction last January, left his wallet at the scene and was arrested two days later, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
“Friends there said they did not know he had left the house and one described him as ‘super drunk’ earlier in the morning,” Freeman announced Wednesday.
Campbell was taken to a hospital before being booked into jail. He told investigators he fled the scene because he was “traumatized by seeing the state” of Patel after the early morning wreck.
Patel, a junior at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, was remembered late Thursday by about 300 people who gathered on the school’s campus as someone who loved to dance and got along with just about anyone.
“She lived such exuberance and had a zest for life,” Patel’s roommate, Kelly Swanson, told the newspaper. “She was taken too soon.”
Campbell, who was ordered held on $250,000 bail during a court appearance Thursday, remained in custody as of early Friday, jail records show. It was unclear if he hired an attorney.
I’ll save my sympathy for a white youth who deserves it. Campbell is a loser, not representative of my people.
Lock him up and throw away the key. I don’t care. And white girls should avoid him like he’s diseased.
