Breaking with tradition, Trump White House forgoes Ramadan dinner

In what will be perceived as a slap in the face to Muslims, President Donald Trump rejected a tradition established by his predecessors by not holding a Ramadan dinner this year at the White House.

I’m certain that his base is pleased.

Likewise, his Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, also failed to comply with tradition.

For the first time in nearly two decades, the White House did not host an iftar dinner to commemorate Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Instead, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania released a statement on Saturday wishing “warm greetings” to those celebrating Eid al-Fitr, an important holiday marking the end of Ramadan.

“Muslims in the United States joined those around the world during the holy month of Ramadan to focus on acts of faith and charity,” they said. “Now, as they commemorate Eid with family and friends, they carry on the tradition of helping neighbors and breaking bread with people from all walks of life.”

By not hosting a dinner, Trump breaks with an annual tradition upheld by the past three administrations. The dinners began under President Bill Clinton and were continued by both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. They were typically attended by prominent members of the Muslim community as well as members of Congress and diplomats from Muslim countries.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also broke with decades of tradition by rejecting a request by the State Department’s Office of Religion and Global Affairs to host a reception marking Eid al-Fitr, according to two administration officials familiar with the decision.

Since 1999, Tillerson’s five Republican and Democratic predecessors have hosted either an iftar dinner to break the fast during Ramadan or an Eid al-Fitr reception at the end of the monthlong holiday. Many diplomatic posts overseas also host events during the Ramadan month of fasting and prayer.

The President has had a fraught relationship with the Muslim community in the United States. Many criticized his campaign trail calls for the surveillance of mosques as Islamophobic. In the White House, Trump has attempted to ban travel to the US from several Muslim-majority countries. However, during his first trip abroad, Trump attempted to bridge that divide, delivering a speech to the leaders of 55 Muslim-majority countries calling for unity in the fight against terrorism.

Some judge somewhere will probably cite Trump’s end to an idiotic tradition as proof that he hates Muslims.

Maybe he was just tired of eating kebab after his trip to the Middle East.

Hmmm. That looks pretty good.

  1. Honestly, that food looks good. We should import millions of these people and destroy our way of life so that I can have an authentic plate of whatever that is.

  2. Good news. One tip for Trump. Claim the decision is based on cost cutting. Also do not feed any jews, Mr President. Fat chance of that latter wish happening.

Bill Clinton is the white traitor who bombed Christian Serbia to help Albanian Muslim scum. It also got that jewess cocksucker Monica Lewinsky off the front page – the real reason for bombing the Serbs in an international act of criminal aggression.

    • Bill Clinton was and is scum. His whole bombing campaign was not reported accurately here. We were told that a genocidal new Hitler was at work in Europe and had to be stopped. Internet news wasn’t much then. Drudge was new. Blogs hadn’t been invented yet.

  3. Off topic, but this might be interesting for you folks. I live in a country that’s 87% Christian and only 0.9% muslim. I flat refuse to buy or eat halaal foods, but I find it impossible to obtain, for example frozen chicken pieces…everything is certified halaal . From dairy products to salad dressing and even all takeaways .All these products are not for export,so that’s not the reason. I’m forced to buy ,say ,chicken from back yard producers, the cleanliness may be suspect, but my conscience is at least clear. Go figure, 99.1% of the population is NOT muslim, yet all foods are halaal…just goes to show how insidious these islamic parasites are.

  4. Yes,most of the foods in the States is Halaal. Go the the site . Even your humble box of Kelloggs cornflakes is Halaal. I don’t know if yr groceries have that small halaal certified symbol on the packaging like in all other countries I’ve visited,so tiny so as not to be noticed, but the American products made in the US that I buy here all do. Perhaps that’s market specific. Have a check up on that and let us know over here…
