Black Teacher Charged After Restraining Students with Tape

What was this poor black lady supposed to do with the unruly animals she was given charge over?

I say give her combat pay and treatment for PTSD and let her go.

A substitute teacher working at Sandhills Middle School has been charged with two counts of cruelty to children after using tape to restrain students, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies say Janeen Clark, 26, taped two male students to their desk chairs and bound their hands with tape during school hours Thursday. She is accused of putting tape over the mouth of one of the students and allowing another student to tape the second victim to a chair.

“We dispatched a team of investigators to look into this situation as soon as the school made us aware of it on Thursday,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Our investigation is ongoing and we’re still talking to those who were involved.”

Clark was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center early Saturday morning. She was released on her own recognizance that same day.

Deputies say cruelty to children is a misdemeanor charge punishable by a fine of up to $200 or up to 30 days in jail.

At least give the nice lady a certificate. I’m sure every student got one of these and a gold star.

  1. Take her out of the orange jumpsuit and apologize for this inconvenience is what they should do. She is not their to act as prison guard for these “students.” If they can’t behave or don’t want to they should be banned from school.

This seems lenient. I would lay odds that the same jurisdiction would throw the book at anyone charged with animal cruelty. I.e. animals are more important than children.
Sheriff Koon is a great name. Again, I will lay odds that Sheriff Koon is a white man.

  3. In fifth grade we had a teacher who used tape on overly talkative kids all the time. Her usual method was to plaster a big jumble of masking tape all over the offender’s mouth.

I remember once a boy who received this punishment for the umpteenth time managed to work his mouth open underneath all that tape. So she sealed his mouth shut all over again, this time with gym tape, that tape they use for permanent colored lines on a gymnasium floor. Now he could never get his mouth open, in fact I can’t imagine how she ever got it off him after school. But he did make noises.

So when we came to our classroom the next morning we found this boy sitting in his seat, unable to talk. Covering his mouth and much of his face was a mask of blue gym tape. Our teacher decided she had just had it with him. So he had to continue that way, with his mouth gym taped shut in school for the next week and a half. Back then no one objected.
