60’s TV Batgirl Yvonne Craig Dies at Age 78

Yvonne Craig must have posed in a thousand bikinis during her reign as a sex symbol in the 60s. I, in my callow youth, was quite smitten by her. Usually, her cleavage was prominently displayed in publicity photos, although I think a lot of that came from being fitted with push up bras.

She had a great career in 60s TV before fashions changed and her look became passe. But to we males who saw her during that exciting decade, she was and will remain unforgettable and much admired.

Excerpt from Variety

Yvonne Craig, the actress best known for her role as Batgirl in the 1960’s “Batman” TV series, died on Monday. She was 78.

Craig passed away at her home in Pacific Palisades surrounded by her family, according to her spokesman. She had been suffering from breast cancer that metastasized to her liver.

Craig also played Martha, the green Orion Slave Girl who wanted to kill Captain Kirk, in the third season of “Star Trek.”

Her guest appearances on TV include “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” “Fantasy Island,” “The Mod Squad” and “The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis.”

She also starred in two movies opposite Elvis Presley, “It Happened at the World’s Fair” and “Kissin’ Cousins.”

  1. Three of her roles were cast for her Middle Eastern dance skills. If the writers needed a scantily clad erotic dancer she seemed to fit the bill.

Considering her looks were pre-silicon there is no denying she was a beauty.
